Nelson managed the defensive harbour for a while and Nelson's Dockyard is what you can visit today to get a flavour of life in another time in Antigua. His quarters are now a very nice museum and that is a must see if you visit the dockyard so give yourself at least an hour in the museum alone. Reading about the history here will give you a much better feel for it, while wandering around the beautiful setting.
