The international airport code (IATA code) for 'VC Bird' as the locals call it is ANU.

The airport is located approximately 8 km (5.0 mi) northeast of St. John's, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda. It was initially known as Coolidge Airport when it was established in 1984. It was later renamed in honor of Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the first prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

The airport has a single runway, 07/25, which is approximately 3,038 meters (9,967 feet) long. It is a public airport operated by the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority. The airport serves as a hub for several airlines, including ABM Air and FlyMontserrat. In 2018, the airport handled over 981,000 passengers and witnessed more than 38,000 aircraft movements.

History

The airport had military use up until 1949 when it was renamed Coolidge International Airport after a WW1 fighter ace. A part of the area is still used by the US military and NASA Coolidge International Airport.

New Terminal

In 2015 a new terminal was opened and this now serves all air traffic. The scale of the building hints at the burgeoning tourism the island anticipates. Delays are not typical so you can stay relaxed but we still recommend 2 hours to check in. An Executive Lounge is great value providing food and drink wifi and much more, not to mention the views. You can book cheaper here if you have more than a couple of days notice before you fly.

For more information about the airport, you can visit their official website here. If you are planning to rent a car during your visit, you can find a car rental at the airport.
